Today we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all slaves in Texas were free, over two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. Let's use this day to reflect on and honor the sacrifices and contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

We fight to end the root causes of these issues through education and empowering people through collective action. We envision social justice in which people are treated equally before the law and in their daily lives. To that end, we aim to fight for the rights of Black people at the intersection of oppression, which means addressing the racial achievement gap, having a universal, single-payer system that will be funded through state taxes to meet racial health care, getting back union power in Wisconsin for Black workers, and reaching for economic democracy for maintain an essential quality of life.
